A wonderful photograph of the artifact which has been most closely identified with King Leonidas of Sparta.
School of Athens near the Spartan Acropolis in 1925.
A Spartan local saw the torso and named it, 'Leonidas'.
Today, it is one of the centerpieces of 'The Archaeological Museum of Sparta'
(Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Σπάρτης).
It was the self-sacrifice of the Spartan king and his warriors (Σπαρτιάτες) at
Thermopylae in 480 BC that has resonated throughout the ages and will
continue in the future.
